That is not straightforwardly. We had a Black and Tan Coonhound, got her when she was 8 weeks old. We were told if we did not want her to be a hunting dog not to train her and she would be fine. Not True. She wanted to go in quest of more than anything so we found her a new home with someone who would be able to give her all she needed.

I have neighbors more than a mile away with a horde of coon hounds. Aaarrrooohhhhh half the evening long. They bray like a hound. It is actually a peaceful, interesting sound. The ones I have seen are agreeable dogs, pretty, and large too. Not quite the size of a lab, but close. They do bray because it is instinct. And they do chase after coons to tree them.
Coon hunting is captivating. You take a couple of dogs out at night with flash lights. The dogs sniff out coons or...
my dog is a disconcerted hound mix- he howls and likes to chase squirrels and bunnies- but is an excellent pet none the less.

We have a black and tan coonhound who is about 18 months. He is a sweet-smelling dog but way too active for us. He was rescued in PA from a hunting reservation about a year ago we have tried to work with him but he is too much for us. We are looking for a new home for him and we are all sad but I would betrothed to find someone who really loves the breed and would give him everything he needs. What everyone has said about them is true they are great but have to have space to run and...
