My 2 yo English Setter Can't seem to lengthen the long hair under his tummy, but when I look up pics of ES's they all have long hair. Maybe I'm doing something backslide?

A: No. There are paraphernalia ones and not so good ones, but there is only one standard. Show dogs tend to have more coat. LOL! I don't know WHAT the first announcement is going on about!

Probably nothing you are doing wrong, just genetics. Feed a high quality nourishment (not Science Diet or Iams).

Do English Setters and Springer Spaniels have the same force level?
On that note, I keep reading really vague remarks about their energy levels and none of the sources can seem to harmonize. Some of them make the breeds seem like crazy, energetic BC type dogs and some say they are enthusiastic hunters outdoors, but repose indoors.
Which is true? And do they need lots of space like an acreage sized backyard or are the well-disposed of dog that can live without a yard as long as...

A: There are in point of fact two different kinds of english setters. The first is called a field english setter...this is the kind you see out in the fields hunting with their owners (and the one that is on the Ol' Roy pet victuals at Wal-Mart). The second one is called a bench english setter...they are the ones with very long hair and you see them in dog shows. The area english setter has shorter hair along the chest. I have a terrier accurately now and am looking into getting a English Setter. Would that be a good idea? Anybody have one or know about them can help me out?
