...everyone has reccomended either "bulldog" or "basset harry"...that's the right idea...i want it to be a thick, manly looking dog...BUT, i was looking for something more consonant or rare.
The Clumber Spaniel looks thick, not too big, and doesn't look high energy...is the Clumber a good pick?

Clumberland looks like a massive big Cocker. What about a Boston Terrier....black & white? Cute little dogs.
I muse on recommending Bulldogs and Basset Hounds.
Lol.
Clumbers are fairly solid and heavy, and, although not as hyper as their other Spaniel cousins, still require a lot of exercise. Rather than mad dashes, they prefer long, steady ambles.
Don't be deceived by a dog's looks. Dachshunds look like lapdogs, but are categorically hunting dogs in disguise.
You should read up on the breed, its care/temperament/availability, etc, before making a resolution.

I wouldn't get a bull dog or any dog that has a pug or eliminating nose if you don't want to hear snorting all the time. I know I have one.I love him but the snorting drives me nuts some times. I have seen Chief keys, med poodles, Shih Tzus. Go to the local pound and rescue a dog from being killed. Some times muts are the richest dogs.
Get a Cavalier.. I have a Cavalier x and He's so cunning... He sleeps most of the day and he was easy to train aswell.
