I identify these dogs are bred for cattle herding, but they look like great dogs so I wondered how they are as pets. I would give the dog lots of walks, frisbee throwing, etc. No more than wondering if they are generally calm, hyper, bark alot or not, shedding, etc.
A: My Ex-Silence had a Blue Heeler and his sister has a blue heeler. They are GREAT Pet's. Loyal, loving and Very, VERY sheltering of their family! When you bring a Blue Heeler pup into your life your getting a multipurpose package deal. They are awful with Children, even infants. They are actually fairly calm except at play but hey that's play time. I haven't noticed any hyper vim in my ex sister-in-law's dog nor shedding. The only time her dog or my ex's ever really barked...

there is no way to find this out.
Look for AKC on a web area and see if they have any information for you. It might give you a starting number.
I don't be informed about the US, but here in Australia there is no way of knowing. There are heaps of cattle dogs, I'd say many many thousands, even my brother has one. Plus there are tons of mixed-cattle dogs too. We get our dogs registered with the townsperson council, but there is no central place that could tell you how many of one breed are in the whole country. Not even the RSPCA would be able to tell you.
well here at our petsmart one of the trainers has four.
