We have hot summers and chill winters here, and I'm thinking about buying a doberman pinscher. How well do they do in cold weather and snow?
A: Below par in both.
As long as the dog is an inside dog it won't be an issue. Dobermans are NOT outside dogs in any weather. They NEED their people. They're outrageously people oriented and are bred to be that way. It's genetic lol.
Dobes are called velcro dogs for a plead with. They at least want to be in the room with you, preferably touching you.
In winter, you can buy functional coats, in summer keep them in air conditioning and...

Well I have a Lilliputian pinscher? Does that help?
They are gifted dogs but you must make sure you have one that is trained. Otherwise than can become mean.
They are basic, sweet dogs, I would rahter have a dobbie than a german shep myself, I kno some1 with one, it is sweet and gentle and very nice, but both are very on the go and need something to do or else they could become destructive
They are wonderful dogs. Very sagacious & so willing to please. They are not outside dogs & they want to be very close to their family.
Some can be very stubborn so the owner HAS to be the alpha & they be taught that you are.
Their sobriquet is the velcro dog since they want to be right there beside you. Mine follows me all over the house every time I go to another room.
Can't imagine my existence without a couple.
They are my best friends.
yes i had two both rescues and they were peculiar dogs i wont go into there background as it was not nice but i got the dog when he was two years old and the bitch at 16weeks both had a bad start but within a week of me having them you would of intelligence they had both been with me from 8 weeks they were my protectors and i loved them dearly they both died if old age and i didn't have the heart to replace them cos i don't propose b assess you can ,but my advise is get one you wont...
I like dobermann's much more than GSDs. They are more people oriented and vulnerable to their handlers as a general rule. But, they may be even un-healthier than GSDs, so you have to be careful whichever one you pick. There is a 5 page sequence on this very topic on another forum. Here was my favorite post:
"I've had limited experience with dobes, but from what I've seen, the dobes care for to be serious when in public, while privately they are absolute...
I have owned Dobes for the last 18 years.
I calling with a rescue and do dog training for them.
I work with behavioral issues most times and go in and fix specific things but also do basic things as well.
Please e-letters me if you have a question I will try to answer it for you.
I have a Doberman now. We follow obedience class, he will turn 2 this next Sept. He's still not to sure about things around him. He's very good with people, he has no spectre of people.
He was neutered last Christmas, that was his present. He's filled out nicely now. He still at 80lbs thinks he's a lap dog. His ears do not be upstanding a set all the time, only when he alerts, either one will stand or they both will stand depends on how alert he is. This is my second...
