I grew up with German Shothaired pointers and they are such very tuneful dogs, they're very protective of their family so i think that if you got one as a puppy with your son as young as he is, it would be perfectly fine.I haighly advocate them for you!Good Luck!

The German Shorthaired Typography fist gets along well with children, but caution should be exercised with young children as the German Shorthaired Pointer is quite boisterous. German Shorthaired Pointers get along with other dogs but may have a shrill prey instinct with cats or other pets, which can be overcome by training and socializing the dog when young. The German Shorthaired Pointer makes a right watchdog.

Very short children and a large breed dog = not a good combination.

However, if you are willing to care for two children [one that potties shell] you are willing to provide it with a lot of training and exercise as pointers are very similar to Weimaraners and they need a ton of exercise [once or twice a week will NOT cut it] and you are game to put in the time and effort there is no reason why a puppy cannot learn to get along with a small child, but remember, Pointers like...

We have a German Low on-haired Pointer/Pit mix - she's our 3 1/2 year-old son's best friend. Not a mean bone in her confederation. They're wonderful dogs.

Cogent news: they can be fantastic.

Bad news: a puppy plus a 15month old is VERY tricky. GSP puppies are bouncy bundles of fun. They can accidentally hip limitation a kid to the floor.

A GSP REACHES FULL HEIGHT AT ABOUT 9 MONTHS OLD. Their growth plates fuse at this age. Their brains are still very "puppy" but their bodies are 20+ inches anticyclone at the shoulder. How tall is your son?

I would suggest waiting a year and using that time...
