Terriers, in sweeping, have a high prey drive, and are generally not recommended for household with very young children. Like any dog though, with the punctilious training, any dog breed can be "good" with children.

They are hyper dogs! If your kids are strident energy types and you have an outside area for it to run and play in then he will be able to calm down when indoors. Have fun!

A scottie can be a wonderful blood dog. They become very attached to their family and are full of energy and spirit. We had one while our kids were young and she was a wonderful pet.
Scotties are territorial and are flattering watch dogs. They will need supervision if other children are over, or you can keep her away from them altogether when friends visit. They do comminuted once they get to know the visiting child.

Scottish Terriers can be very jealous of children. I have a female Scottie and she is GREAT with children. One of my other dogs tried to mount a friend's toddler that visited us and she attacked the dog. They tend to be aggressive with other dogs though and you will need to let her know that you have control over the whole house and that she does not necessity to be "on duty". Scotties can be the most loyal AND independent dogs that I have ever had. They also LOVE to enjoy...
