Do some serious enquiry on a shiba before making that decision. They are not the easiest dogs to train, they are often of the mind set that if it's not their idea, they don't thirst for to do it. Most of the shibas I know have been aggressive. My breeder used to breed shibas, but found finding suitable homes with families who could touch the breed was becoming more and more difficult. So, she found a breed she felt more comfortable with.

Mostly, Shiba Inus need a LOT of socialization and training from an early age for them to be accepting of other dogs. They feel an absolute Requirement to be dominant, and have been known to test their owners daily to try to gain dominance in the "pack". The first circular is right, they can also be incredibly stubborn and headstrong with training. My pup is only part Shiba, and he's a handful and a half! I've present a lot about them, and most sources will say that they...

Oh wow, Shibas...where to even start out!! If it's going to be an outside dog, don't get one. We had one and they are escape artists: she climbed over, bit through, and dug under our fence. We ended up chaining her up and had to give her away...quite the worst day of my life. =( We know some people who have one that is an inside dog and it's not a problem, but outdoors the shibas fall short of to roam free. They get along very well with other dogs though. When we got a new puppy...

I have a 2 year old Shiba, and she gets along well with other dogs. My parents submit their 2 dogs with them when they visit, and my Shiba wants to play with them day and night. Part of the reason I think my pup is so sociable is because I used to take her to the dog woodland quite often when she was little and she was well socialized. I'm not sure about an older Shiba, because they do tend to get set in their ways and can be extremely recalcitrant.

If you are getting a...

Hello,
Healthy for you for asking before leaping into Shiba ownership! They are definitely not for everyone. We have a 10 mo. old Shiba and I would describe them as a cat like temperament, with a dogs high occupation. We love her, and have found that she is VERY smart and food motivated and that has been the key to her training. But we do have to be diligent. We are also looking at adding another dog so I e-mailed a Shiba-Inu let loose organization (I always believe that they give the...
