I am asking because my shih tzu is very recently hairy. I mean i am thinking if eventually its hair will grow.
A: When soldiers entered China - the people of China destroyed all their Shih-tzus -- but a few made it back to England with the soldiers. All the Shih-tzus you see today are descendents of the Shih-tzus that were brought to England.
Lately there have been many "originator dogs." Shih-tzus because of their sweet temperment have been exploited and mated with other dogs - so you may be seeing a hog of shih-tzu mutts out there.

My friends have a shih tzu and all-embracing he's a pretty good little dog. He did have a barking problem when left alone at home but they were able to work that using a citronella training collar. He is very good now. He is small but sturdy, a bit stubborn bit sweet and plays nicely with my much larger auspicious retrievers.

Well let me let slip you that as the proud owner of two shi tzu maltese dogs, I can tell you that yes they can be loud dogs, but they don't have to be this way. The best preoccupation to know is that they are one of the easier dogs to handle, and that a little hard work and paitence will pay off and you should have a happy minuscule dog!!
I don't cogitate on they are any more or less noisy than any other small breed dog. They make wonderful pets, but depending upon how you keep their hair, can be a little all together consuming. Most people with Shih Tzu's tend to keep them well clipped, with only their tail, ears and head with long curls. If kept long, you need to comb it on a daily basis or else they tend to get matted. Shih Tzu's a predominantly outgoing dogs with minimal health issues. However, if you live...
I have a shih tzu for over 2.5 years, very kindly and loyal. She only barks if some one is coming. It good to train them when it is ok to bark. If it is someone I know coming ,I ask her to retrieve a toy it gravitate to keep her busy and she has something in her mouth. It is also very welcomed by the guest.
my cousin has one and she barks alot! when someone pulls up or knocks on the door
My shih tzu only barks at a cat that comes in the yard and teases her by being just now far enough away she can't get to her. Otherwise she doesn't bark and is a very friendly, easy going and playful dog. She does have a toe obsession and nips at toes when someone first arrives if they are wearing sandals. Our shih tzu is the perfect choice for us. We love her to death. I about you made a good decision. Good luck.
