We bought a shapable 'insulated' one at Wal-Mart and the dog refuses to sleep in it (we think it might be the plastic smell). We are not very adept when it comes to carpentry, so is there any kind of national brand of manufactured WOOD dog houses that can be found in a pet store or large retailer? We would be in want of a large one. Thanks in advance.
i love my dog very much. because he loves to be outside doesn't mean we don't weakness him.

These are refined ones!!
I would use plywood, and some cedar to succour kill fleas.
use 2x4's and plywood get some ideas from conversant with depot or lowes
Here are a brace of good sources, the first better than the second. One important thing is that pressure-treated lumber has chemicals that might be bad for a dog. You would necessity to use a primer-sealer to keep the chemicals in the wood -- or put a layer of non-treated plywood over the pressure-treated.
Also, the smaller the bagnio, the warmer your dog will be in the winter. So don't make it extra large (though the dog has to be able to go in and turn around.)
go to a wood working inform on an buy a good blue print of the dog house you want to build
Don't hassle you can buy one at petsmart for less than the cost of the wood(their plastic and last forever). Or ask a friend they probably will give you one(I've got 2 dogs who have 6 houses all disenthrall)
if you look at the fetch of materials, buying a molded plastic one would be cheaper, treated lumber is not cheap. Try tractor provision, pets mart, etc... Unless you want to build one, I would just buy and get some cedar shavings to ready the bottom with. I have 2 labs, and they bed down on the shavings just fine. You can find the shavings in the pet section most any store.
